Publication Announcement

Inspiration: I would like to announce the publication of an anthology titled, The Journey of Healing (Safer Society Press 2010). I am honored to have four of my works chosen for the anthology.

I am also a proud supporter of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). I participated in the DC Rape Crisis Center SAAM 2010 Poetry Slam last night, Monday April 19, 2010, at Busboys and Poets on 14th Street in Washington DC. It was an inspiring event to raise awareness and help educate the community on the issue of sexual violence against girls, boys, women and men. Ten courageous poets, a supportive community and excellent planning and execution made this an exciting and informational evening. I was fortunate enough to be selected by the judges as the winner for the slam. I donated the prize to DCRCC in the name of all the poets who were courageous enough to come out and read their works.

Please support this important social issue in any way that is appropriate for your life.

Calling Back My Spirit

Inspiration: I’ve met some interesting people who have chosen to work through the challenges in their lives by consciously reviewing, evaluating, and making decisions based on where they want their lives to go. Along the way I heard someone say, “You need to call back your spirit.”

That phrase stuck with me and bounced around inside my soul for a long time. I wondered what it would sound like to call back your spirit. So, based on what I had heard many friends say, I tried to create a collective voice poem that expressed what I had heard. So I wrote: Calling Back My Spirit

Long Ago

Hearthunger

Exile

Inspiration: Exile happens. Tough transitions and changes can make us feel like we have been exiled from the life we have come to know. The ultimate feeling of exile can come as we approach the final days of a change when denial has been defeated, when anger has burned hot, when avoidance is not an option, when bargaining time has passed and acceptance is the only path forward.

I wondered what that would be like when we face the final transition out of this world and into the next. So, with those thoughts in mind. I wrote~~EXILE.

Stream of Stories

Inspiration: I went back to listen to Spiritual Partnership and found this poem in a file. It is a companion to that poem. It speaks to what we are really asking of someone when we ask them to enter into a spiritual partnership with us.

Our lives are a stream of stories that flow into each other. Spinning, whirling, crashing, lazily flowing or turbulently throwing us about. Yet, there is something about being together that makes it all worthwhile.
